Bias in Artificial Intelligence

Source: Freepik

As you may know the rise of artificial intelligence has taken the world by storm and is growing bigger than ever before. It is becoming more efficient and more accurate. However, as of now there are major problems concerning artificial intelligence with bias and accuracy.

In an analysis of technologies concerning facial recognition, the artificial intelligence systems detected higher flaws and error rates for minorities and especially minority women. From this study, it is clear that artificial intelligence does not take race, ethincity, or even gender into accurate consideration as there is more inclination to go against minorities in just this one instance. With the millions, even billions of artificial intelligence systems that are spread throughout the world, we can expect this number to be especially high.

Though we can expect the artificial intelligence systems to improve over time and reduce bias, action must be taken as soon as possible to account for exponential growth of systems over the course of future generations. There is still some action taken place, some adjustments to sensitivity and improving the ability of decision making in artificial intelligence systems have been tested in order to try to improve the current state of bias and accuracy in artificial intelligence systems.

Overall, artificial intelligence systems must adjust to the current state of the world and be more inclusive towards minorities and ameliorate accuracy and bias towards them through the help of us humans.
